Course Description

This interactive online discussion class will start with an exploration of the idea of loving your neighbor as yourself. Leviticus includes the positive formulation of this idea, and Rabbi Hillel states the negative formulation. We will then discuss Jesus’ parable of the Good Samaritan from the New Testament. Jesus tells this fascinating story in response to a fellow Jews’ question about how you define “neighbor” in this concept. And then we will discuss quotes from two speeches by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. which refer to the parable of the Good Samaritan. Each makes a vitally important point about repairing the world. These two sessions are right before and after the holiday when our nation celebrates Dr. King’s life.
