Course Description

Discover the rich history and vibrant cultural creativity of Jewish life in Mexico. The first session traces the arrival of Jews during the Spanish Conquest, the formation of communities in the early 20th century, and the development of today’s vibrant Mexican Jewish community. The second session explores major Mexican art movements—Muralism, engraving, the Rupture Generation, Surrealism, Independent Salons, and contemporary art—while highlighting major influential Jewish artists who helped shape them. Participants will gain historical insight, cultural context, and a deeper appreciation for the distinct and enduring story of Jews and art in Mexico.
