Course Description

Ever since Freud introduced his theories, scholars and mental health professionals have been psychoanalyzing Shakespeare’s villains and tragic characters. This course will examine a cross section of psychological interpretations of his characters from the early 20th century through today—and perhaps posit some of our own. Was Julius Caesar a narcissist? Does Iago have anti-social personality disorder? Although we will refer to many of Shakespeare’s plays, we will focus on: Julius Caesar, A Winter’s Tale, Macbeth, and Othello.

Read: Julius Caesar, A Winter’s Tale, Macbeth, Othello, William Shakespeare
