Course Description

Dante’s Divine Comedy is one of the greatest masterpieces of world literature and a profound exploration of the human condition. This first course in the trilogy examines Inferno, where Dante journeys through the circles of Hell and confronts the moral, psychological, and social forces that lead humanity toward darkness. Participants will explore themes such as apathy, excess, violence, fraud, treachery, and hubris, while reflecting on how these distort human freedom and damage both individuals and communities. The course also connects Dante’s vision with modern thinkers such as Hannah Arendt, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, and Primo Levi to examine enduring questions about evil, responsibility, conformity, and human dignity. The series will continue in winter with Purgatorio and in spring with Paradiso
