Course Description

Experience the genius of Stephen Sondheim through a table reading and discussion of one of his most popular musicals: West Side Story. No singing or acting skills required! Learn about the creation of the show, read through the brilliant script by lyricist Stephen Sondheim and book writer Arthur Laurents, and discuss this classic updating of Romeo and Juliet. Even if you’ve seen the original 1957 musical, the original 1961 movie, the many Broadway revivals, or the 2021 movie, you’ll enjoy living in the script and learning what makes West Side Story the masterpiece it is. No pre-reading is required for this course.

Please purchase a copy of the West Side Story original Broadway musical script and bring to class. Available on Amazon or Mac’s Backs Books.
