Course Description

The class will explore the work and influences of artists who were born and raised in Asia, but now live in the West. Their inspiration often is drawn from ancient, traditional cultures, yet they are creating contemporary art—here and now. Learn how they make these links between old and new and how they live the transition through the act of immigration. Students will explore this multicultural mosaic and, via hands- on experience, create their own place in it. Students will also learn about the art of the Indian miniature paintings and how artists use this in their contemporary artwork. The technique of miniature painting will be discussed and shown.

Jewish Studies programming is supported by the Fund for the Jewish Future of the Jewish Federation of Cleveland, and The Laura and Alvin Siegal College of Judaic Studies Educational Foundation, a supporting foundation of the Jewish Federation of Cleveland.
