Course Description

In this course, participants will learn and revisit historical stories that shaped the Cleveland we know today through lenses such as migration, labor and commerce, and social movements. Participants will hear stories of the region’s development from the late 19th to mid-20th century, and also the stories of individuals who shaped the region through primary sources and interviews. We will also discuss how the legacies we have inherited influence the present-day landscape of our communities. The course will be grounded in Teaching Cleveland’s cornerstones – identity, history, economics, civics, and engagement – that shape effective, place-based learning and spark meaningful connections.
